Result: Another unplanned trip to the beach!
Because we were at the beach just two weeks ago, and because there wasn’t time to make any hotel reservations, we decided to make it a day trip. To the nearest beach just for the day. Never mind that it’s usually crowded there. Never mind that the beach there is not that nice. We just want the fresh air. And Roo just wants the sand.
Bangsaen beach is about an hour’s drive from Bangkok. The last time we came, Roo was about four months old. That's way, way back. Too long ago for him to remember. So when I asked if he would like to see the fishies at the aquarium, he said "Yes!" right away.
Bangsaen aquariums is part of Bangsaen Marine Institute. It's located about two hundred meters away from the beach. The fish and other underwater creature collection is quite large and varied, even better than the ones at Underwater World in Pattaya where you pay three hundred baht to get in. Entrance fee is here is just Bht.30 (used to be twenty baht).
Because my memory is shorter than Dory's, I can only tell you that this fish is the lion fish. The other two, I'll have to ask Roo. I completely forgot.
And that's the grumpy old grouper who coughed right in front of Roo and scared him so much that we had to cut our visit short and head for the beach to help him forget the nasty-looking fish.
And Roo started his hungry strike. So happy that he can finally be in the sand, he politely refused our invitations to eat lunch with us. While we enjoyed tinolang manok, chicken barbeque, somtum and spicy mango salad, Roo scooped shovel after shovel of sand into his bucket.
This is what happens when you play with ice on the sand: a cold and dripping sand wonder for our little explorer.
Lucky for him, his photo-hungry daddy couldn't resist taking some pictures on the beach. First chance he got, he followed daddy right into the midday heat and enjoyed the few minutes he had playing with the water.

the pictures posted are interesting. i would love to go to the beach too. here in japan, i seldom hear of a place that has a beach. i hope i am in thailand so i can be free to go to the beach anytime.hehe..

Yes, our family escapes to the beach as often as we can because the air quality in Bangkok is very poor and we just long for the relaxation and fresh air that we get when we go to the beach. We are thankful God has given us the opportunity and resources to visit nice places and bond as a family.
If you dig into my earlier posts, I think you might be able to find pictures of us. With so many stories about pictures being grabbed and used inappropriately, I have been extra cautious in posting pictures that show our faces.
We've been planning to visit Japan soon! Tani madayon...

Greymom, yeah I like that picture too! Wish I didn't have to call Roo in from the heat though, he was having so much fun playing, I felt like a killjoy mom :(
really ia? where in japan you wish to visit? my place is a province quite far from tokyo. about 4 hours drive. hehe
anyway, if you happen to visit here, maybe around this month is really good because winter has passed and it is almost spring.
Viv, either Tokyo or Osaka. We want to see Mt. Fuji and the cherry blossoms, too. I don't know if we can still catch up with the flowers...

Nice to see Roo having fun in the sand. My son loves the beach too and his favorite part is playing in the sand.
the word beach makes me go loco. i also like the beach (i wonder if someone does not). i also heard that there are really good beaches in Thailand. i heard of Phi Phi island.
Hi Rachel! I guess all kids like the beach and playing in the sand. We try to bring Roo to the beach often because he just loves playing in the sand. We wish we can get him a sandpit but he gets these skin itches when he plays with sand other than in the beach so it's just not possible right now.

Yes, I don't think I know anybody who doesn't like the beach. There's just something about it that so relaxes and refreshes us--and we just have to go back for more!
Yup, Thailand is blessed with beautiful beaches!!! Too bad we can't go to the really nice ones now because they're just too far from Bangkok. We are looking forward to the time when our Roo can sit longer in his car seat, go island-hopping and explore pristine beaches with us.
